Program Growth & Player Development

As the all-time winningest coach in Neosho County basketball history, Coach JJ Davis has built a program that exemplifies leadership, hard work, and resilience. In the 2024-2025 season, he was honored with the KJCCC Coach of the Year award for his remarkable leadership and impact on the game.
Under his guidance, the Panthers have achieved:
  • Three consecutive 20-win seasons, a program-first
  • Nine double-digit win seasons in one of the nation’s most competitive junior college leagues
  • 22 All-Conference players
  • 46 NJCAA Academic All-Americans
  • A 95% graduation rate for his athletes
Coach Davis' program seeks to build on players core values each and every year. Davis believes in The Neosho Way which revolves around the programs four Core Values: Serve, Honor, Compete and Now.

The Neosho Way

At the heart of Coach Davis’ program is The Neosho Way—a culture rooted in four powerful values that inspire athletes to lead with purpose:

  • Serve – True greatness begins by serving others. We believe that by putting others first, we not only elevate ourselves but also our team and our community.
  • Honor – We strive to lead with unwavering integrity, to give our best in every action, and to honor the game and each other with unconditional love and respect.
  • Compete – Excellence is a mindset. Every day is an opportunity to be 1% better—to push through obstacles, to challenge ourselves, and to elevate our standards in everything we do.
  • Now – The time is always now. We don’t wait for the perfect moment; we make the most of each second. We live with urgency, purpose, and relentless focus, knowing that every action has the power to shape our future.

Coach JJ Davis is more than a coach—he is a mentor and leader who builds women and men into leaders. Through The Neosho Way, he helps them realize their potential, not just as athletes, but as individuals who are prepared to face the world with courage and character.

Before coming to Neosho, Davis spent three seasons at Brown Mackie College where he served as the head assistant coach for both the women's and men's teams. Prior to his arrival at Brown Mackie, the Lions women's team had recorded one 20 win season in their 19 year history. After Davis joined the staff, the Lions posted 3 straight 20 win seasons and were ranked in the NJCAA National Poll each season. Davis's teams are known for their ability to score the basketball. During his final two seasons at Brown Mackie, the women's team ranked in the top 20 nationally in scoring each year. The Lions also ranked in the top 20 nationally in team defense during the 2011-2012 campaign.

Davis began his coaching career over two seasons at Cedar Vale-Dexter High School. While there he guided the Spartans to a sub-state championship while sending five of his athletes on to play collegiate athletics.

JJ and his wife, Lisa reside in Chanute, KS. They have two daughters, Brittany and Addyson and one granddaughter, Kinley
