The men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their seasons under the lights at the Rogers State University Distance After Dark meet. The event features some of the best high school teams in the region prior to the college races. The Collegiate field was loaded with some of the best NCAA Division 2 programs in the region and no shortage of talent from the NAIA and NJCAA programs. Neosho's teams represented well despite the hot and muggy conditions with the temperatures well into the 80's still. The men's program was lead by Sophomore Denner Dos Santos running 23:02 in the men's 4 mile race. The women were lead by Sophomore Bethany Barger in 21:56 over the 5k distance for the Women. 

"We got better today. I was initially frustrated seeing the times and placings come across, I believe we are much better than what we showed. After taking a bit to collect my thoughts I realized the conditions and training load we have had the last few weeks wasn't going to give the best times. Over half our team improved their time trial efforts and showed we are getting better and moving forward. We have a long way to go but come October and November I am hopeful we will surprise those teams who have written us off." said Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Trey Bruton.
