Chanute, Ks - The Neosho County women's basketball team protected home court Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 86-84 victory over Labette, pushing their record to 16-8 overall and 6-1 in KJCCC play.
In a game that featured nine ties and multiple lead changes, the Panthers leaned on balanced scoring, timely three-point shooting, and a dominant effort on the glass to secure the win.
Neosho knocked down 14 three-pointers and finished with 55 total rebounds, including 19 offensive boards that created crucial second-chance opportunities.
That extra effort on the boards proved to be a difference-maker in a contest that came down to the final possessions.
Laynie Winfrey caught fire from deep, pouring in 20 points while going 6-of-11 from beyond the arc.
Sophia Mireles added 15 points and five assists, helping steady the offense during key stretches.
Bauke Graulus controlled the paint with 10 points and eight rebounds, while
Ta'Neah Jones contributed eight points and four rebounds.
Chloe Parker and
Jessica Houston made their presence felt on the boards, each pulling down eight and seven rebounds respectively, and the Panther bench added 25 points in a strong all-around team effort.
Neosho trailed 50-46 at halftime but battled back with composure down the stretch, outscoring Labette in the fourth quarter to seal the two-point win.
