Panthers Face Tough Test at Home against No. 1 Johnson County

Chanute, KS- The Panthers faced an early deficit after a tough first quarter that saw JCCC jump out to a 29–4 lead. Despite the slow start, Neosho regrouped in the second quarter, matching Johnson County point-for-point in a 19–19 frame. The Panthers showed resilience, improved ball movement, and knocked down key perimeter shots to settle into the game.

Laynie Winfrey led the way offensively for Neosho with 10 points, connecting on two three-pointers. Lelani Carter added 7 points, including two shots from beyond the arc, while Desiree Williams chipped in 6 points, also going 2-for-4 from three-point range. Chloe Parker was a force on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds to anchor the Panthers inside.

Ta'Neah Jones contributed 5 points and battled in the paint, and Jaida Harris added 4 points along with strong defensive minutes. Bauke Graulus and Maila Tashiro each knocked down three-pointers to help spark the offense.

As a team, Neosho hit 9 three-pointers and showed improvement at the free-throw line, shooting over 73 percent from the stripe. The Panthers continued to compete through all four quarters, finishing the game with balanced bench production and strong effort on the glass.

Now, the focus shifts quickly to the next opportunity.

Neosho County will travel to Highland Community College on Saturday, January 31st, with tip-off set for 1:00 PM. The Panthers will look to bounce back on the road and continue building momentum in conference play.
