Springfield, MO - On Saturday, Nov 15th, the Neosho Panthers competed at the Drury Open, and saw competition from the NCAA I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA.
Tanner Putt (Fr. Carthage, M0) had a very strong performance at 125 lbs, going 2-3 on the day, and placing 6th.
Putt started the day with a 15-2 major decision over Skyler Galloway followed by a tough (11-5) loss to Shelton Chasain (University of the Ozarks) in the quaterfinals. Putt came back with (15-0) technical fall over Angelo Thompson (Central Christian) before losing to Carter Foglesong (Northeast Oklahoma) in the consolation semifinals. In the 5th place match Putt lost a close 8-5 decision to Jose Salinas Nava (Schreiner).
Kelton Howard (So. Plam Coast, FL) wrestled well, going 2-2 and reaching the quarterfinals but did no manage to place. Howard reached the quarterfinals with a 13-9 decision over James Tuepker (University of the Ozarks) followed by a fall over Jais Rose (Labette Community College). He then fell to Clay Giddens-Buttram by technical fall and then then lost by major decision (13-3) to Tony Stewart (Northeast Oklahoma)
Coach Hansen said "We are improving and won several matches. We are not where we want to be yet but we have a good evaluation of what we need to work on with our guys. This open is a good tournament for us. Now we need to go to work on correcting some of our mistakes and bad habits so we can keep delivering good results against tougher opponents."
The Panthers will face off against Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa on Wed. Nov. 19th in Tonkawa, OK. Wrestling begins at 6:00 pm
