Softball Crushes Hesston on Sophomore Day

Chanute, KS - The Panthers celebrated sophomore day with two huge wins over Hesston. Game one was led by Lainey Howard driving in four runs on three hits. The Panthers got things started in the first inning, when Braxton Stainbrook singled, scoring one run. Then three home runs would be hit back-to-back-to-back by Annseligh Morris, Howard, and Carsyn McCue. The Panthers kept the bats alive in the second, scoring nine runs on eight hits. Stainbrook would double, scoring two, Morris would double, scoring one, Howard hit a sac fly, scoring one, McCue would double, scoring one, Emma West would single, scoring two, and Addyson Easter would single, scoring two. Howard would double in the fourth, scoring two runs, Molly Proper would follow Howard's lead and double as well, scoring two herself. West would come to the plate and single, scoring another run. Eleanor Rieck earned the win in the circle. Rieck allowed only one hit and zero runs over two innings, walking none, and striking out one. Gracie Turner and Kamri Naff would also get their turn in the circle. Turner and Naff both threw shutout innings. The defense played well behind the pitchers, adding two double plays to the action and one of those would end the game. The Panthers collected 20 hits in the game, West would lead them with four hits in her five at bats. As hot as the bats were, the Panthers were extremely patient at the plate. Jessica Petric, Abby Chambers, Easter, and KeaLeigh Mount each collected a walk. The Panthers would end the game with a winning score of 22-0.

The Panthers kept the bats alive in the second game. Hesston would open the scoring in the first inning with a homerun to left field. However, the Panthers weren't too worried, as they would go on to score eight runs in the bottom of the first, taking the lead 8-1. Addyson Easter would hit a three run shot to center field, to help take that lead. Lainey Howard would single, adding one run in the bottom of the second inning. Emma West would draw a walk, scoring one run in the bottom of the third. Audrey Dewey singled, scoring one run, and Annsleigh Morris hit a three run shot to center field, taking the score to 14-1. Four more Panthers would cross the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead. Carsyn McCue hit another home run on the day and Molly Proper would get in on the homerun action, hitting one herself, scoring two runs. Brenli Solano drew a bases loaded walk, scoring another run. Paige Hutsell earned the win in the circle for the Panthers, allowing just one hit, one run, no walks, and three strikeouts. Gracie Turner and Logan Cates would perform in the circle as well. Turner and Cates both shutout Hesston, allowing no hits. The Panthers had 14 hits, led by McCue, West, and Brinly Bancroft with two. Morris led the team in runs batted in with four. Jessica Petric and Bancroft had multiple stolen bases. The Panthers would secure the win with zero errors in the field, taking the game 18-1.
