Waggerman Leads Panthers at Viking Open

Poteau, OK - The Neosho CC Wrestling traveled to Poteau, OK on Sat. and competed in the Viking Open hosted by Carl Albert State College.  NCAA I, NCAAII, NAIA and Junior College programs were all represented in the field of competition.

Dylan Waggerman (So., Paola, KS) had a very strong performance at 184 lbs and wrestled his way into the semifinals. Dylan won in the first round by fall over Riko Camacho from Fontbonne.  In the quaterminals Dylan beat Henry Martin from Ouachita Baptist 16-11 but lost a hard fought 6-2 decision in the semifinals to Laird Bourbon from of Tarleton State. Then in the consolation semifinals dropped a tough 12-9 decision Eli Cordy of Oklahoma University

Maleek Ayonrinde (Owings Mills, MD) also competed well at 184lb. Maleek started the day with a 12-2 major decision over Peyton Madawi and followed with fall over Xavier Hurtt of Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.  Maleek then dropped his quarterfinal match by a close 4-2 decision to Ibraheem Ahmed from Tarleton State. He come back with a 11-2 major decision over Nawab Singh from Schreiner.  Then he was defeated by Eli Cordy of Oklahoma University.

Other notable performances were by Cayden Morris (Fr. Richmond, MO) at 125 lbs, Kasen Smith (Fr. Gardner, KS) at 157 and Ty Leedy (Fr. Chanute, KS) at 165 who all were 2-2 on the day

Coach Matt Hansen said "Waggerman had a great performance today and continues to improve. As a team we looked better today then we did last weekend at Baker and are continuing to Improve.

The Panthers next Competition is on Nov. 16 at the Drury Open in Springfield, MO
