Chanute, KS - Playing for the first time in over a month, Neosho County came out of the break firing on all cylinders. After nearly 9 minutes of game play, the Panthers were pitching a shutout as they built a 19-0 lead against Baptist Bible College. The Patriots fought back, however, and were able to limit their deficit to 24-38 going into the halftime break. The 2
nd half was a different story, though, with Neosho taking full control and never letting up. The Panthers shot 59% during that 2
nd period, limiting their opponent to just 30%, and outscored the Patriots 28-67 on their way to a dominant 105-52 final score.
The key stat for the Panthers in this game was their assists to turnover ratio, as they had a remarkable 31 assists on 38 made field goals, and committed only 8 turnovers – a season low. The Patriots on the other side had 16 assists and 22 turnovers, leading to 25 transition points for NCCC.
Neosho had a number of impressive individual performances, including
Traymond Willis-Shaw (22 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 9/14 field goals),
Shaun Holmes (22 points, 6 steals, 5/7 3pt field goals),
Ezrah Vaigafa (12 assists, 0 turnovers), and newcomer from
Tane Kirisome, who had an impressive debut with 14 points, 4 assists, and 0 turnovers in just 15 minutes. The 6'4" combo guard from New Zealand will look to continue getting comfortable as Neosho County begin their conference play on the road against Hesston College.
