Wichita, KS – The Neosho County Track & Field team kicked off their indoor season at the Friends University First Chance Qualifier. The team took a small portion of the team that returned early to get a jump-start on training and their season. The meet was a big success.
Jared Sylvester led the way for the running event athletes placing 5
th in the finals of the 60m dash (6.86 seconds). It was Jared's first attempt at racing that distance and his effort missed qualifying for the Indoor National championships by 1/100
th of a second and was just 6/100
ths of a second from the school record. He followed that performance up with a 2
nd place finish in the 600m race (1:23.38) nearly qualifying for the National Championships in that event as well.
On the field events, side
Charles Mason a true freshman from Beggs Oklahoma lead the way for the Panther Men. Charles was competing in his first indoor competition and made finals in both the Weight throw and Shotput. In finals of the weight throw, he finished 9
th overall (12.37m). In the Shotput, Charles came in without a collegiate mark but took the lead early throwing from the first flight and held it until the second to last attempts. Charles finished second overall (14.78m) not far from a National qualifying mark and briefly held the NJCAA's best mark.
Next up for the Panthers is the Washburn University Rust Buster, January 21
