Chanute, KS - The Neosho County women's basketball team held their Alumni scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 8th at Panther gymnasium. The Neosho County Community College women's basketball alumni squad featured some of the best players in the program's history. The alumni team was led by legendary Coach Mark Childers, while the current players were led by Coach DJ Dangerfield. The current panthers continued the history of shooting 3's and playing a full court press and connected on 10 made 3's for the game. The Alumni dominated the post with Bianca Valderama, Kelsey Hinz, Hayley Stiger, Ki'Asha Harris, Cherish Barry, and all-time leading scorer Ashley Grant.

The teams played five, 12-minute quarters. The teams then engaged in a tough second quarter of play until the Alumni were hampered by the pressure of the present Panthers. When Coach Davis was asked why Coach DJ pressed the Alumni, Davis said, "because all these players in the gym, Alumni included knew it was coming." That is how the Neosho Way plays.

Coach Lyric Martin was able to lace the sneakers up with old teammates, which included: Precious Palmer, Dequandra Lyles, Jhanai Felix, Brooke Neal, Beth Hawkins, Brooklynn Sumonja, Olivia Uhrich, and Michaela Hinton. Coach Martin commented, "We are going to need to sleep for a couple days," following the game. Sarah Hunt, who played with the current Sophomore Panthers last season, was able to return and play for the day against them.

The Alumni scrimmage, in Coach Davis' opinion, is the greatest feeling in the world "It's so much fun to see former guys you've coached return and share tales with the fresh faces. The current players do not comprehend how adhering to "The Neosho Way" will benefit them for the rest of their lives; they are only aware of what is in front of them."

The Panthers will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 25 when they continue their Pre-season schedule versus Independence Community College in Independence, KS.
