Panther Track & Field Open’s Season at Washburn Rust Buster

Washburn Track

Cross Country/Track & Field | 1/20/2022 9:21:00 AM

The Panthers opened up their spring indoor track & field campaign with competition January 15th, at the Washburn University Rust Buster meet in Topeka, KS. Despite being a little shorthanded it was a successful day for the program.

Neosho County Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Trey Bruton had this to say about the opener, "Covid among other things has taken a toll on us as we get back into it this spring, we were only able to travel about half of the team and most of the team that did go hadn't even gotten a full weeks' worth of training since returning from break. I didn't know what to expect going into the day, but those that were able to compete shattered my expectations. It is a testimate to the efforts that they put in during the fall training and over the break to put themselves in a position to succeed. We didn't set any records or hit any National qualifying marks but all things considered I couldn't have asked for a better start."
