The Neosho County Softball team hosted the Rose State Raiders for a doubleheader this afternoon. The Panthers split the day winning game one by a score of 8-7; and losing game one 12-3.
Game 1:
Neosho Softball seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game to topple Rose State College. The game was tied at seven with the Panthers batting in the bottom of the seventh when Karley Crowe singled on a 1-0 count, scoring Olivia Cummings.. The Panthers totaled 14 hits in the ballgame. Ayche Marchoud, Zito, and Paulson each collected three hits to lead Neosho's offene. Olivia Cummings, Karley Crowe, Katie Boline, Hannah Duin, Kirsten Birdwell, and Mallory Gazaway each had a hit a piece to add to the Panthers hit parade. Cassidy Paulson was the winning pitcher for the Panthersm, lasting seven innings, allowing eleven hits and seven runs while striking out two.
Game 2:
The Panthers fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-3 loss to Rose State College for game two. The Panthers struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Rose State College, giving up 12 runs. Olivia Cummings took the loss after going three and a third innings, allowing ten runs, on eight hits, and striking out six. Kirsten Birdwell hit another long ball in the fifth inning, putting herself at 7 home runs on the year. Birdwell, Britney Hughes, Lydia Brown, and Hannah Duin each collected one hit to lead the Panther offensively.
The Panthers will look to get off to a quick start in KJCCC play as the Pirates of Independence Community College come to Chanute to kick off conference play on March 9th. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1:00 PM,with game two to follow 15 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
