Chanute, KS. -- Powered by a relentless all-around offensive performance the Panther men's basketball program (2-0) composed an impressive conclusion to the team's non-conference slate in Saturday afternoons matchup against Ottawa University. The Panthers pushed past the Braves 104-51 at the Panther Gymnasium in their second of two games in 3 nights.
This was the Panthers last game opportunity to prepare for the rugged 20-game Jayhawk Conference schedule. The Panthers came out with their full-court pressure trapping all over the court forcing the Braves into 16 first-half turnovers and only allowing 16 first-half points. This tenacious defense saw the Panthers take a 47 to 16 lead into the locker room at halftime.
"I thought the guys came out and played hard and executed offensively and defensively." Head Coach Jeremy Coombs stated "I wish we had more time to work on things before jumping into conference play, but everyone is in the same boat we are, and as long as we play hard and smart, we will be fine."
The Panthers would continue the pressure defense in the second half but did not trap all over as they did in the first half. Yet they still wore the Braves down holding them to 29% shooting from the field (16-55) and 17% from three-point range. The Panthers would finish off the second half going deep into their bench and would drop 57 points on the Braves pushing their lead to 104-51 at the end of 40 minutes.
