IOLA, KS -- Despite allowing 25 offensive rebounds the Panthers only trailed the Red Devils by 3 with just 1:30 left to play. But it was Allen County that knocked down their 8 of 9 free throws late to pull away from the Panthers and secure an 81-70-win Saturday night in Iola. The Panthers would be led by freshman guard
Jonathan Breeland Jr. with 21 points.
Outside of the final score, the contest consisted of 17 lead changes and 10 ties. The Panthers would hold their largest lead of the game at the 7:36 mark of the first half 25 to 17. But the Red Devils would come storming back as and take a 31 to 29 lead with 4:01 to play in the first half.
In the second half, both teams would struggle to score, but it was Allen County jumping up by as much as five late in the second half. Throughout the game, both squads refused to let the other pull away, matching nearly every basket to finish the evening with 23 overall lead changes and 10 total ties.

For the game, the Panthers finished shooting 40.3 percent (25-of-62) overall, 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from beyond the arc and 66.0 percent (12-of-18) at the free-throw line.

With their first Monday off in two weeks the Panthers will get some much need rest and will return home Wednesday, Feb. 5th as the Indy Pirates come to town for a tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Panther Gymnasium.
