Neosho Takes Two Games from KCKCC

Kansas City, KS-  Neosho Softball ran off with the lead late in game one in a 10-3 victory over Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday, April 5th. Neosho trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning, when Ashlyn Stipp doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs. The Panthers secured the victory thanks to nine runs in the sixth inning. Neosho batters who contributed to the big inning included Kaelee Escoe, Stipp, Shayla Schaper, Libby Horton, Kinsley Stewart, and Sierra Spurlock, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the 6th inning. Escoe earned the victory on the rubber for the Panthers . She lasted the entire seven innings, allowing four hits and three runs, while striking out eight and walking only one. Sierra Spurlock went deep in the sixth inning for a three run homerun. Stewart went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Neosho in hits. The Panther's defense didn't commit a single error in the field. Horton had nine chances in the field, the most on the team. 

In game two, Neosho would continue to do well offensively to get a 5-2 win. After KCKCC scored one run in the top of the sixth, Neosho answered with one of their own. The Panthers then answered again when Ryleigh Chaffin singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Neosho pulled away for good with four runs in the 4th inning. In the 4th inning Madi Phillips doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and DP Kaelee Escoe homered on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs. Chaffin pitched the Panthers to victory. She allowed six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out one and walking zero. Escoe threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Neosho tallied eight hits in the game. Sierra Spurlock, Chaffin, and Libby Horton all managed multiple hits for the Panthers. Horton, Chaffin, and Spurlock each collected two hits to lead Neosho's offense. NCCC was sure-handed through-out the day and only committed a single error on the day. Shortstop Kat McManus made the most plays with six. Doing the little things right was the key to Neosho's success on the day. The girls all worked together and played as a team, earning two big wins on the day.

The Panthers will be back in action on Thursday, April 11 at home against Fort Scott Community College at 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
