Great Bend, KS. – Neosho Women's Basketball season came to a close when they fell to Barton County 114-102 in the first round of the NJCAA Region VI tournament. After getting off to a slow start, the Panthers would get a spark from Destiny Stewart when she connected on a pair of three-pointers and tied the game at 18 points. The teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the First Quarter, but Neosho trailed 26-22 at the end of the First Quarter. The Panthers struggled in the Second Quarter where they shot 26.1% from the field while Barton shot 50.0%. That would cause the Panthers to trail the Cougars 59-45 going into halftime.
The Panthers regrouped during the half and Neosho shot 45.5% from the field in the Third Quarter, while Barton shot 42.9%. Neosho was able to put up 22 shots and Barton only took 14 shots in the quarter. Even though Neosho outscored Barton in the quarter the Panthers still trailed Barton by 13 points to end the Third Quarter, 87-74.Freshman Jessica Jones hit a three pointer within the first 30 seconds of the Fourth Quarter that put Neosho within 10 points. Chrissy Brown also knocked down a three with seven minutes left which pulled the Panthers within five points. Neosho had several shot attempts, but nothing fell for two minutes. The Fourth Quarter was much like the Third Quarter as both teams were offensively unstoppable. Neosho only lost the Fourth Quarter by one point, but it was not enough to close the double-digit gap that Barton earned in the Second Quarter.
Kelcey Hinz, Jessica Jones, Chrissy Brown, Destiny Stewart, and Calea Augustin all scored in double-figures. Kelcey Hinz led the Panther's offense in her final game as she scored 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 4 blocked shots. Chrissy Brown had 19 points and 3 steals. Destiny Stewart added 17 points and 2 steals. Jessica Jones scored 15 points, while Calea Augustin chipped in 10 points in her final game as a Panther.
In the Jayhawk Conference, Neosho ranked #1 in offensive rebounds averaging 19.1 per game and #2 in defensive rebounds averaging 29.2 per game. The Panthers ranked #3 in scoring, averaging 79.6 points per game.
Neosho ended their season 9-22 overall and 6-14 in the Jayhawk Conference.
