Goodland, KS - The day after New Year's, the Panther Men's basketball team went on the road and came away with a 86-75 win over the Northwest Tech Mavericks. The Panthers would jump out to an early lead scoring the first 12 points before the Mavericks were able to get on the board. "I thought we did a great job early creating scoring opportunities off of our defense." said Head Coach
Jeremy Coombs, "I definitely feel we are taking pride in our defense and putting together multiple defensive stops" The Panthers would finish the first half by taking a 41-25 lead into the locker room. "This was a business trip for us and I felt the guys were prepared and focused on the task at hand." Coombs said "I thought we played well on both sides of the ball, but we need to continue to work and get better everyday."
In the second half the Mavericks would fight back and would win the second half 50-45, but would never get closer then 10 point. The Panthers would pull off the road win taking down the Mavericks 86-75.
Brian Tolefree would lead all scorers with 27 points knocking down 6 of 10 from long range and 5-6 from the free throw line.
Magic Reliford scored 14 points,
Jay McMiller and
Davion Benton would chip in 11, while Arkel Willams scores 12 points. The Panthers shot an outstanding 40.6% (13/32) from deep and shot 77.3% (17-22) from the FT line. The Panthers return home this Saturday as they play host to the Pratt Beavers, tip is set for 7:30 pm.
