The top ranked shooting Panthers found themselves in a tough situation Wednesday night in Garden City as they shot an unpleasant 33% from the field, 19% from 3 and 43% from the free throw line and lost to the 6-8 Broncbusters 79-59.
"I thought it was just one of those nights where we couldn't buy a bucket to save our lives." Head Coach Jeremy Coombs Said, "We knock down just a few 3's and shoot just an ok percentage from the FT line and it would have been a totally different ballgame."
The Panthers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but Russhard Cruickshank would knock down back to back 3's to put the Broncbusters on top and would spark a 9-0 run to put Garden City up 15-5.
The Panthers would fight back and pull within one but Garden would throw together an 11-0 run to close out the first half and take a 32-26 lead into the locker room.
"It was disappointing that we didn't shoot well." Coombs said "But on nights like that we need to be able to rely on our defense and I thought we let our poor shooting affect the rest of our game."
The second half was much like the first as the Broncbusters ran away with the game early in the second half. While the Panthers continued their shooting issues shooting just 37% from the field and 16% from deep.
Panthers were led by Jay McMiller with 12pts and Brian Tolefree with 11pts.
Neosho now 11-6 overall and 4-3 in Jayhawk play. The Panthers will now make their third trip of the season out west as they head for Liberal, KS to take on the #19 Seward Saints. Game will be Saturday 8pm at the Greenhouse on the campus of Seward County Community College.
