Chanute, Kan. – Freshmen forwards Kyrstanne Idom and DaNisha Brown netted a pair of goals each as Neosho blanked Ottawa 4-0 to open the 2017 season and snap a 37 match losing streak.
 
Looking for their first win since October 17, 2014 the Panthers controlled the ball for much of the first half but were unable to find the back of the net. That changed with just 20 seconds left in the first half when Idom jumped up and blocked a kick by the Ottawa goal keeper. The ball bounced over the keepers head and Idom was able to punch it in for her first career goal.
 
The Panthers would extend the lead quickly with a pair of goals to open the second half. Brown found the back of the net off a corner kick from Savannah Moberly just 1:25 in to the second half for her first career goal. Brown would then add her second goal of the night less than four minutes later when she beat the keeper one on one following a steal.
 
Not to be outdone Idom would add her second goal of the match as she followed up her own miss in the 54' to give Neosho a 4-0 lead.
 
Freshman Autumn Wilson got the start in the net for the Panthers and posted five saves in 78 minutes in net. Freshman Kathleen Reed stepped in for the final 12 minutes and recorded a save to finish the shutout. The duo combined to give Neosho their first shutout since Raysha Claibourn was in net for a 7-0 win over Southwest Baptist on October 1, 2014.
 
The Panthers move to 1-0 on the season and will travel to Miami, Oklahoma on Tuesday to face Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (0-1) at 6:00pm.
