Chanute, KS - Neosho Wrestling hosted the Panther Duals this past Saturday, with five teams participating in the event. The Panthers came away with a 1-3 record for the weekend, winning 36-18 over Wentworth. The three losses were 23-22 to Barton, 32-18 to Colby, and 30-18 to Northwest Kansas Tech. "After the day I thought, as well as many others observing our competition, that we could have won three duals today." said Coach Petterson. "We consider Barton to be a top three team in our district, and we won five of the seven matches wrestled against them. Then we lose two matches where our wresters had leads coming down to the wire against Northwest Kansas Tech, which with the swing points in that dual we could have tied and won on criteria," added Coach Petterson. "This would not have happened a few months ago, so our wrestlers have made improvements. We made some mistakes still, obviously fewer, and came out 1-3, but we improved and that is what we are after," said Coach Petterson.
Next action for the Panthers will be the always tough and intense NJCAA West/Central District Qualifier on Saturday, February 11th. "We've got to clean up these mistakes in order for our wrestlers to qualify for the National Championships. Particular area's where we wants to improve, after this Saturday, is wrestling consistently at a high level and finishing matches," stated Coach Petterson.
