On Friday, October 28, the Panthers opened their season at Labette Community College, who had a large crowd due to inaugural Hall of Fame inductions. Despite some success, Neosho dropped the dual 37-12. Recording wins on the night were red-shirt freshman
Randle Crowley at 149 winning by a 6-5 decision, sophomore
Cole Franklin pinning his opponent in the first period, and freshman
Nick Carson winning in the 285 weight class.
On Sunday, the Panthers hosted Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. The Panthers fell to the defending NJCAA National Champions 46-0.
"Friday night we were flat, slow, and going through the motions. And with all that we did some stupid things that were not fundamentally sound. Sunday we did show a few signs of speed and explosiveness, but then went back into the same mode as Friday," said Coach Petterson. "We did this schedule for a reason, to find out where we stand with our guys out of the gate. I've never believed in padding your schedule win or lose. Wrestling has always been a true character builder and always will be. This week we will concentrate on each individual's weaknesses, adding to their strength's, and keep moving forward. Having five guys suspended for different reason's definitely was a negative factor on our team."
The Panthers will be back in action this coming Sunday, November 6 at the Baker Open.
