Panthers sweep road trip

Tallying eight straight wins, including four over the weekend on a road trip to Central Kansas, the Neohso County Community College softball team (6-2 Jayhawk East, 10-12 overall) is sitting second in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region VI Div. II standings with a 10-2 Region record.
                                
NJCAA Div. II No. 13 Johnson County Community College leads the Region VI at 7-1, 16-6.
 
Winning four in a row with sweeps of Brown Mackie (0-3, 4-19-1) and Coffeyville (5-7, 8-14) at home last week before departing to central Kansas, the Panthers swept Hesston (10-12) in a double header 11-5 and 14-2 Friday and beat Hutchinson (7-3, 14-7) 2-1 and 10-5 Saturday.
 
Panther sophomore pitcher Meaghan Thompson picked up two wins over the weekend to improve her record to 6-6 for the season. Thompson pitched two complete games, struck out five, gave up four earned runs and walked four.
 
Sophomore RHP Lexie Heiniger also picked up two wins over the weekend to improve to 4-2. In her two outings Heiniger allowed six earned runs and struck out three.
 
At the plate several Panthers contributed. Sophomore outfielder Amanda Rodriguez drove in five RBIs. Taylor Pence scored four runs. Sophomore infielder Tia Parker compiled three RBIs and three runs scored. Freshman infielder Taylor Bolden scored five runs and drove in four RBIs.
 
Neosho continues Jayhawk East play today in a double header at Fort Scott. First pitch is at noon.
