Panthers begin season with big numbers against Ottawa

Men's Basketball Wins Home Opener

The Neosho County Community College Men's basketball team (1-0) opened up the 2015-2016 campaign against the visiting Ottawa university Braves(0-1). The Panthers gave their home crowd a sight to see with an absolutely dominating performance that saw just about every player on the Panther squad score in tonight's contest. The first half saw Sophomore Freddie Mcswain shoot 100% from behind the arc, and got the crowd to go berserk with an alley-oop dunk with 5:00 minutes left in the first half. Also having stellar performances in the first half for the Panthers were Power forward Richard Granberry with 11 points and Freshman Guard Marc Moon also adding 11 points for himself and Neosho. The first half score ended with Neosho with 65 points and Ottawa with 18.
                After the break the Panthers were able to do mass substitutions and saw multiple players score. Tucker Thompson added 10 points to the board with shooting 2 for 4 behind the arc and having 2 steals. A pair of freshmen panthers added 8 points with Chanute bred Derek sharp shooting 2 for 2 from behind the arc and Matthew Donart going 2 for 3 from the 3 point line himself. Marc Moon had a team high 18 points going 3 for 3 from for behind the 3 point line and having a 70% FG for the game while also having 3 steals to add to the list. Also scoring for Neosho were Nik Boone with 6 points, Tyson Downing with 7, Daran Lee with 7, Rashon Griggs with 6, Landon North with 6, Freddie Mcswain with 16, Garek Peters with 3, Richard Granberry with 15, and Garin Vandiver with 4.The Panthers showed that they can dig deep into their roster and have any of their players be a scorer. The final score of the game ended in a lopsided outcome Neosho county-114, Ottawa University-46. The Panthers will gear up for the Community State Bank Classic in Coffeyville on Friday and will open up the tournament with Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Friday.
