No. 21 Coffeyville Snaps Panthers Win Streak

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – Riding a season long 10 game win streak, Neosho fell for the first time in more than a month as No. 21 Coffeyville held off the Panthers handing them a 76-65 loss dropping them to 13-10 on the season.

For 10 minutes the teams traded baskets as neither team led by more than three points until Coffeyville opened up a 5 point lead with just under 9 minutes left in the first half. After Deshawn Terrell's 3-pointer cut the lead to two the Ravens would go on a 7-0 run to open up a 9 point lead, the largest of the half.

Neosho would respond with a 9-2 run to get it back to a 2 point game and eventually took the lead 29-28 with just over2 minutes to go in the first half. Coffeyville would close the half on a 10-2 run however and led 38-32 at the break.

For much of the second half the Ravens kept Neosho at an arm's length as the lead hovered around 7 points. The Panthers would get back to within two points after Brett Frantz knocked down a 3-pointer with 6:28 to play.

Joseph Acuil's basket with 4:18 to play made it a three point game before Coffeyville went on a 11-1 run to put the game out of reach.

It is the Panthers first loss since they fell to then No. 11 Butler 73-71 on December 3.

Acuil recorded his team leading 15th double-double of the season finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Acuil, the nation's leading shot blocker, only recorded one block in the game, his fewest since November 4.

BJ Jenkins finished with 15 points and a team high six assists while Brett Frantz and Deshawn Terrell added 12 and 10 points.

Neosho will look to get back on the winning track Saturday when they host Highland Community College (10-12, 3-3) on Suits and Sneakers night.
