Persistent Panthers Find Success

Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. - On a warm summer day, temperature closing in on the century mark, the Neosho Women's Soccer team began their season. Matched verses Metropolitan Community College Blue River, the Panthers began a high octane, energy fueled attack that propelled them to a 4-1 opening day win.

A couple failed attempts in the opening minute would not hinder the progress of the Panthers on the prowl. A counterattack by Blue River would lead to a successful corner attempt and a goal, quickly called off due to offside. Through twenty five minutes, the score would remain Nil-Nil.

Immediately following a short water break called by the referees, the Panthers' persistence would pay off with a goal by Haley Kinzey, assisted by Eliany Parra in the twenty-eighth minute.

A few minutes later, Katlin Moran would miss the right post by a hair on a free kick. A good scrimmage for ball controlled followed, and ended up with a Panther goal in the forty-third minute by Nazareth Viramontes. The assist was by Moran who cleverly eluded the goalkeeper with a well-timed pass.

Moran would add to her assist a long shot goal in the forty-eighth minute, following the half. With the score now 3-Nil, the Panther defense would prove their strength.

The only MCC goal would be in the seventieth minute by Williams. The Panthers seemed to grow angry by the goal and mounted a furious assault. Eventually, a couple fast breaks and corner kicks later, the rule of percentages is answered by Haley Kinzey and an assist by Katlin Moran in the eighty-seventh minute. The score would hold, with the Panthers on top, 4-1.

The Panthers begin their season 1-0, with the next opponent being Hesston College on August 30th, at 5PM.
