Career Night From Dena English Lifts Neosho Over Allen

Box Score As the regular season begins to wind down, wins become more and more precious. The Neosho County Panthers picked up a crucial road win as they continue their quest to host a first round regional game. The Panthers entered play Wednesday (Feb. 14) trailing Coffeyville and Allen by 2 games for the fourth seed in the Region VI standings.

For 30 minutes Wednesday night the Panthers looked sluggish and out of sorts, but Dena English provided the spark they needed off the bench. The freshman knocked down four 3 pointers in a crucial 10 minute stretch to lift the Panthers to the road win over rival Allen Community College.

English finished with a career high 18 points, doubling her previous best of 9 points by connecting on a season high 6-9 from 3 point range. Alexis Hafenstein added 15 along with 8 rebounds to join English in double figures.

The Panthers win coupled with a loss by Coffeyville means Neosho County is now 1 game back from a 3-way tie for 3rd in the region standings. While they are still on the outside looking in with 5 games to play, the win put them within striking distance. The Panthers also hold the tie breaker with Allen County as they swept the season series.

The next action for the Panthers will be another important road contest. They will travel to Parsons, KS to take on the Labette Cardinals Saturday (Feb. 16) at 2:00pm.
