Neosho County picked up a resounding win on the road Friday (Nov. 6) at No. 20 Colby Community College. The Panthers won eight of the 10 matches en route to a 38-6 win over the Trojans.
 
After a nearly two week layoff, the Panthers responded well and jumped on the Trojans early and never looked back. The long break and a six hour drive couldn't slow down the Panthers who wrestled with a different lineup than usual.
 
"Our lineup was somewhat pieced together," commented head coach Wayne Petterson. "We had guys wrestling up a weight at 149, 157, and 165 and we didn't know who our heavyweight would be until after practice Thursday night."
 
Colby was forced to forfeit at two weights after they had wrestlers fail to make weight at 133 pounds and 157. Those that did make weight didn't fare much better as the Panthers recorded a pair of pins and a pair of major decisions to go with the two forfeits.
 
"I was proud of the guys for the way they performed after making the six plus hour drive out. They were able to make weight and then went out and put it on them. We expected a much tougher lineup, but to our credit we were ready."
 
Coach Petterson was pleased with his wrestlers who moved up a weight for the dual.
 
"I'm real happy for Ty Swartz picking up a fall filling in wrestling up a weight at 165. He works hard for us and is as loyal as they get. In all of our other wins the guys looked good and went at it hard."
 
Neosho County improves to 4-2 in duals on the season with the win. The Panthers will wrap up the fall semester Sunday (Dec. 15) with the Jet Invitational hosted by Newman University in Wichita, Kansas.
