Women drop a pair at Keith Lindsay Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Neosho County women's basketball team headed out on the road for the first time this season to play in the Keith Lindsay Classic at Kansas City Kansas Community College. They dropped both games, losing to No. 3 Johnson County Friday and host Kansas City Kansas Saturday.

Friday afternoon the Panthers faced perennial Division II power Johnson County. The Cavaliers proved to be too much for the Panthers as they cruised to a 91-45 win. The Panthers were held to just 17% from the field in the contest. They were able to force the Cavaliers into 17 turnovers, but it was not enough to overcome the poor shooting night.

"We knew we were going to be in for a battle against Johnson," head coach JJ Davis said. "They are an extremely talented team. You aren't going to beat very many teams shooting 17%."

Danielle Randle was the lone Panther in double figures as she finished with 10 points on just 3-14 shooting. She also pulled down a team high 8 rebounds in the loss.

Saturday the Panthers squared off against the host Blue Devils of KCK. The game was tight for the first 32 minutes. At the half the teams were knotted at 34, and it stayed close until the 8 minute mark when four straight three's by the Blue Devils pushed the lead out to 12 points. The Panthers once again struggled to shoot the ball as they were held to only 23% from the floor and KCK eventually extended their lead to 20 points as the Panthers fell 84-64.

"Once again it comes down to not making shots. We grab 21 offensive rebounds, we forced 30 turnovers, and we get 18 steals, but we go 17-74 shooting the ball. We got to the foul line 38 times, but we have to make more shots."

It was Randle who led the Panthers in scoring again as she finished with 20 points on 8-14 shooting. Madigan Gonzales grabbed a game high 12 rebounds, but was held to just 2-11 shooting.

The Panthers fall to 1-2 on the season with the two losses. They will be back in action Monday to kick off a busy week. Monday they travel to Bethel College followed by a trip to Friends University on Thursday. They will wrap the week up with a pair of games in the Neosho Hoops Classic, hosting Pratt on Friday and Barton Community College on Saturday. Game time for both games of the classic is at 5:30pm.
