‘Riders Down Panthers in Final Game of Classic

The Neosho County Panthers fell 66-56 to Crowder College Saturday (Nov. 3) afternoon. The Panthers forced the 'Riders into 25 turnovers while taking an additional 37 shots thanks to 21 offensive rebounds, but it would not be enough. Crowder would take advantage of 30 Neosho County fouls as they finished the game 37-44 from the free throw line.
 
Alexis Hafenstein got the Panthers off to a good start when her third 3-pointer of the game tied the game at 11. Crowder would not allow a basket for over five minutes after the Panthers tied it up jumping out to an 8 point lead. The teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the half, and the Panthers would go to the locker room at the half down nine at 32-23.
 
The Panthers would go on an 8-0 run to start the half and cut the 'Riders lead to 1. Crowder would push the lead back to four after a technical foul on Neosho County, but Brandae Carroll would get the Panthers back to within 1 on a pair of free throws.
 
Crowder would begin to slowly pull away doing most of their damage at the free throw line. The Panthers would get back within six on Carroll's layup, but the 'Riders would seal the game going 7-8 from the line in the game's final minute.
 
Carroll once again led the Panthers with 18 points to go with 8 rebounds on the day. Hafenstein joined Carroll in double figures, finishing with 13 points.
 
The Panthers fall to 1-1 on the year with the loss while Crowder improves to 2-0 for the season. The Panthers next action will be Friday when they take on Cloud County Community College at the Iowa Western Classic at 1pm. They will then take on host, and no. 12 ranked Iowa Western at 5pm on Saturday.
