Neosho Defeats Cardinals On Home Turf

Tuesday evening the Neosho CCC wrestlers took on 2 lineups at Labette.  The first dual saw So. Jeff Vesta at 125 and Fr. LeRoy Barnes start out the second semester with big wins even though the Panthers overall lost handedly.  In the feature dual in the evening the Panthers came up with a big win 24-22 where again Vesta and Barnes led the way.  Next action for the Neosho CCC wrestlers is a change in the original schedule and will be next Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Oklahoma City U. where the Panthers will face the home team plus U. of Neb.-Kearney and Newman U. in head up duals.  Comments from Coach Wayne Petterson: “Obviously Vesta and Barnes looked good.  Both guys beat nationally ranked opponents, Vesta for the 4th straight time and Barnes for the first time this season against Labette.  The difference in the second dual really was the fact that our guys sucked it up and made weight, compared to Labette who had 3 of their big guns not do so.  That is the difference in our sport compared to the other games, we must make weight first or give the other team points.  Tuesday morning and early afternoon was a big test for 4-5 of our guys and I wasn't going to let them squat out.  I thought we had problems until we walked into their gym and observed the same situation going on there.  So, overall that was the difference.  It might sound like so what, but the rules are the rules and this is the sport we chose.  Making weight is a huge part of our business.  So we split duals at Labette and we will take it.”
