The meet was a tremendous step forward for the program on the indoor season as it heads towards the Championships portion of the season. The weekend saw 3 new school records and 2 additional National qualifying marks. The weekend kicked off with a new Men's DMR school record on Friday night with Tyler Landrum, Jeremey Ellington, Noah Laird, and Jaden Perry on the carry for the squad besting their own school record in the event from earlier in the season which had taken down the oldest school record on books for the Panthers. The Panthers faced brutal conditions as Lakeside Municipal Golf Course was hit with 3 inches of snow throughout the Championship race day. The weather made for a tricky course with slick footing taking out many runners around the turns and hard blowing snow in the faces of the competitors. The men's team came away with an 8th place finish in the region, while the women had Bethany Barger come away with All-KJCCC East region honors. On a warm breezy morning in Western Kansas the the Panther harriers had an up and down day. On the men's side 2 newcomers in Jayden Jones and Curtis Smilko ran nice personal best to help steady the ship on a tumultuous race for the men that saw 2 of the teams top 5 finish well back in the pack compared to usual. Levi Waring also had a stellar day helping push along the team. Was a warm and breezy night for the runners but absolutely beautiful for the spectators who came to watch. While challenging for the competitors the conditions didn't keep the Panthers from having some great performances. On the Women's side Bethany Barger continues her strong freshman campaign with a 5th place finish in the women's race running 21:10 for the 5k course. The men had 3 placers in the top 10 at the competition, Noah Laird (27:17), Jaden Perry(28:14), and Oliver Cabana(28:35), who finished 3rd, 7th, and 8th respectively. Both the men's and women's team had stellar performances that resulted in a number of National Qualifiers. The men's team ran the 3rd fastest team time all time in 28:05 to earn a trip to the National Championships as a team. Denner Dos Santos moved himself to number 8 all time in school history in the 8k with his performance of 27:32. The event was hosted by Rogers State University. The late night event is paired with an Oklahoma multiple division High School race that really brings a large crowd. It was a great shot for the Panthers to make a big jump forward on the season. The Panthers were lead by Noah Laird on the men's side and Bethany Barger on the Women's side. Noah ran a really impressive PR in the 4 mile race coming in at 21:46 and placing 36th overall.
